Yesterday, Vladimir Putin presented his country with a belated Christmas present: the Avangard hypersonic missile. According to Russian media, it's capable of reaching Mach 20. And if its ability to conduct evasive maneuvers at high velocity is as good as the Russian president boasted back in March, it would render missile defense systems effectively useless.

Brick and mortar stores are going beyond the dictionary definition of a store to cultivate unique experiences for their shoppers. Pop-up shops have also gained traction as brands experiment with different cities, locations and demographics. Swiss backpack brand QWSTION, whom we’ve featured before for their urban bags, is one of the latest to open a temporary store for four months, joining their permanent flagship stores in Zurich, Vienna and Copenhagen.

Dezeen promotion: designer studio Formafantasma worked with colours previously used by prolific architect Ettore Sottsass to create this range of tiles, which can be used to give ombre effects to surfaces.

Amsterdam-based Formafantasma created the Cromatica collection for CEDIT Ceramiche d’Italia – an Italian ceramics brand that saw success in the 1950s, 60s and 70s, and has recently relaunched with collections by a range of prominent designers, architects and artists.
